We were off to Paris to meet Kye and Lou Fox from San Antonio for the weekend. We spent the afternoon at Montmartre.
We saw the precise spots made famous by Renoir. Below is the famous picture of the swing.
Voila here is the actual swing
Painting of a small meadow
Voila the actual arbor
More landscape at Montmartre Musée - last vineyard inside Paris
The famous Lapin Agile bar frequented by all the artists
An authentic poster showing the stages of intemperance
A musical show depicting entertainment from the epoch of the artists
When the circus came to town, a live elephant was paraded through Montmartre. You can see the actual elephant to the left of the pavilion below in a period photo.
Lovely hotels in Paris include the Mandarin Oriental
and the Royal Parc Monceau
and the brand new Peninsula in the renovated former historic Foreign Ministry where the Vietnam Accords were finally signed.
We dined at the magnificent LiLi gourmet Chinese restaurant inside the Peninsula.
Ron couldn't resist
Barbara could not resist her favorite store in Paris.
Then a ball gown worn for a Michigan party was accessorized by a Parisian item which is the rage in France.
Oui - a tattoo with small crystals
Next up our visit to the Pantheon where famous French are entombed.
We met up with Angeline, the recent bride whose wedding we attended shown in an earlier post.
We lunched at the George V Hotel with her.
There are statutes of the Queens of France around the edge of the Jardin.
This smaller area within the Jardin is our favorite part and a very quiet special place within Paris. The Medici Fountain is a monumental fountain in the Jardin. It was built in about 1630 by Marie de' Medici, the widow of King Henry IV of France and regent of King Louis XIII. It was moved to its present location and extensively rebuilt in 1864-66.
The fountain is bordered by aisles with heart shaped greenery hanging down.
