Deauville et Mallorca

We were off to Deauville recently.  It was a grand place for vacations for Parisians in early 20th century.  It has been called the 21st arrondissement of Paris for that reason.

Cinema is celebrated at festivals in Deauville.  Read the names on the cabanas below.

The Royal Barriere Hotel was facing the water.  Exterior and interior were lush.

They really did not name this restaurant for Barbara, but we naturally patronized it.

While in the area, we strolled about Honfleur, an old harbor where many artists employed their skills.

Our next trip was to Mallora.  Our nephew, Greg, and his adorable wife, Gabrielle, exchanged their home in Philadelphia for a large terraced apartment right on the Mediterranean.  We stayed at an adult only hotel right down the street from them.  When our shuttle arrived, our great niece, Scarlett, and our great nephew, Hudson, were waiting to greet us warmly.

Our hotel, Melia de Mar, had magnifique views from every room.  You can sunbathe right on the cliffs.  Absolutely lovely every moment.

Artistic touches throughout the hotel.

The first carriage ride for the children, although Scarlett is a wonderful horse rider at 5 years old.

One evening Flamenco dancers entertained.

Music was everywhere.

As the full moon rose, Ron captured it on his fingertip.

A family visit to the marché.

Fresh fruit and vegetables at the market.

A cucumber carved like an alligator which delighted the the kids.

Playgrounds abound.

We loved the climate so much, totally sunny with a pleasant sea breeze, we plan to return someday.
